Lydia Stutton
State Target Championships

Waiting to begin - Target Championships.
It was an almost wintery day for the commencement of the SA Archery Target Championships, held at Mylor Oval on Sunday 7th October. However as predicted, the clouds cleared and by mid morning the sun beat down with the intensity of a hot summer day!

It is such a pleasure shooting at Mylor and the day was perfect for archery with little wind to worry arrows reaching the sweet spot.
The Target Championship consists of a 1440 arrow round with distances varying from 90 to 20 metres depending on class and division. This is a test of endurance and accuracy and quite a challenge for any archer - and most of all it is serious fun!

Big tug for Sherry Gale - Target 6.
VHAC had a small representation that included Rhiannon Mills who came 1st in the Open Female Compound division and Lydia Strutton [making her first appearance in this contest] also coming 1st in the Veteran plus Female Recurve division. It was good to see Sherry Gale competing locally once more. She took out 1st place in the Veteran Female Compound division and established several records that will be very difficult to beat for future female veterans!
Our one male competing archer was Graham Potts shooting in the Open Male Compound division. Graham was 4th amidst a strong group of contenders so he did very well.
Following the State Target Championships, Archery SA President Ian Dall presented a few details regarding the 2019 Australian Masters Games that Adelaide will be hosting next October and in which Archery will play a strong part. Preparations are already underway and the Games will see several Fleurieu Archery clubs, Victor Harbor included, who will be hosting various events. With already several major Archery events involving VHAC planned for early 2019, Victor Harbor and surrounds will be buzzing with visitors and competitors and world class Archery competitions – and that’s something to look forward to.
